The SUNY Charter Schools Institute Committee approves the application for the Cardinal McCloskey Community Charter School.

The Cardinal McCloskey Community Charter School application successfully demonstrated and met the rigorous standards detailed in the Institute’s 2017 RFP.

Cardinal McCloskey will target for enrollment students who are or have been part of the foster care system, as well as children whose families have received preventive services. The school has designed its program around the Sanctuary Model, an evidenced-based approach that supports children who have been exposed to trauma.

The Cardinal McCloskey Community Charter School intends to be located in a public or private facility in New York City Community School District (“CSD”) 10 in the Bronx. The proposed school will open in August, 2018 with 150 students in Kindergarten and 1st grade, and ultimately serve 450 students in Kindergarten through 5th grade during its first charter term.

Additional information will be available shortly. Please reach out to us if you have questions at
